Research
My research focuses on exploration of large relational data,
manifold learning, visual data mining, and their applications. I
work on research projects under the following topics:
- Visual exploration of large relational data. Large
relational data in raw format are not appropriate for
visual exploration and other database applications that
require overview-and-drill-down of data. These
applications would benefit from a common data
representation that supports multiresolution data
aggregation. Read

- Data embedding. Data embedding deals
with the issue of how to project data on a manifold to
low dimensional space. We have developed algorithms for
constructing connected neighborhood graphs and for
locally isometric data embedding. Read more ...
- Visual exploration of data mining results. Unlike
relational data, data mining results are usually facts
and rules, for example, frequent itemsets and association
rules. It is challenging to visually present and explore
many such facts and rules. Read more ...
