:. Membership Requirements

The eligibility of students, former students and faculty for election to membership in this Chapter of the Upsilon Pi Epsilon Association shall be determined as follows:

  1. An undergraduate student must be a candidate for an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, and must have completed at least 64 semester hours of undergraduate credit including at least 18 semester hours of computer science course work. Further, the student must have a grade-point-average of at least 3.00 overall and in computer science courses and must rank in the upper 35 percent of all students in the Computer Science program satisfying the credit requirement.
  2. A graduate student must be a candidate for a graduate degree in Computer Science, must have been in residence and taken graduate level courses for at least one semester, and must have completed at least 15 semester hours for graduate credit. Further, the student must have a grade-point-average of at least 3.50 in all graduate level courses exclusive of research and seminar courses, and must rank in the upper 35 percent of all students in the Computer Science program satisfying the credit requirement.
  3. A faculty member must have been teaching in Computer Science or in a field closely related thereto, at Western Michigan University for at least one year in order to be eligible for membership in the Association. The faculty member must have been in responsible charge of development, preparation, or presentation of courses, or in charge of research in Computer Science. Achievements in research and teaching shall determine eligibility for a faculty member, rather than scholastic achievements.
  4. Former students, who at the time of their completion of degree requirements in Computer Science satisfied the grade-point-average and class rank requirements of the appropriate subsection, A or B, of this Section, shall be eligible for election to membership in this Chapter of the Association.
  5. Former students who do not qualify under the provisions of the previous subsection, but whose achievements in and contributions to the Computing field qualify them, in view of the Faculty Advisory Council, shall be eligible for election to membership in the Association.
