Upsilon Pi Epsilon is the International Honor Society for the Computing Sciences. The society was founded at Texas A&M University in 1967. It is recognized by The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) two of the most well know scientific and professional societies for computer scientists and computer engineers. In 1997 UPE was formally admitted as a member of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS).

:. Mission Statement

The mission of Upsilon Pi Epsilon is to recognize academic excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in the computing sciences.

:. Benefits of Membership

Upsilon Pi Epsilon

  • recognizes academic excellence in the computing sciences.
  • has chapters in various colleges and universities in North America and overseas.
  • is the only honor society that is recognized by the ACM and the IEEE-CS.
  • presents scholarship awards to active members.
  • present scholarship awards to student members of the ACM and the IEEE-CS.
  • presents cash awards to chapters who send representatives to its annual convention.
  • presents cash awards and plaques to all participating teams at the ACM International Scholastic Programming Contest.
  • presents scholarship awards on behalf of industry supporters of the association.
  • presents the ABACUS Award - an annual award that is presented to the individual who, over several years, has provided extensive support and leadership for student-related activities in the computing sciences.

The following benefits accure to UPE members of the WMU Chapter. Benefits given only to certain classes (e.g., students, faculty, honorary, new members, etc.) are indicated within square brackets after the benefit. Where no qualification is given, the benefit is given to all UPE members.
